Our Story

Our Story

Musch Love was born from unimaginable loss and transformed into a mission of hope.

On June 10, 2021, our founder and Executive Director, Shelia Blockson, experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. She discovered her son, Moses T. Odum, lifeless at the foot of his bed after an accidental fentanyl overdose.

Moses was vibrant, compassionate, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. His life was marked by resilience. As a child, he endured bullying and faced mental health challenges. At just five years old, he suffered a stroke that affected his executive functioning and cognitive processing. Yet through every obstacle, Moses demonstrated remarkable strength, perseverance, and a heart that left a lasting impact on those around him.

The name Musch Love is a tribute to Moses and his affection for the beloved Fat Albert character, Mushmouth. More than a name, it is a promise that Moses’s life—and the lessons learned through his journey—would inspire hope, healing, and action for others.

Following Moses’s passing, Shelia recognized a heartbreaking reality: far too many families are navigating the intersecting challenges of mental health struggles, bullying, substance misuse, and opioid overdose without the education, resources, or support they need. His story became the catalyst for building an organization committed to changing that reality.

Founded in Orland Park, Illinois, Musch Love serves communities throughout Chicago and the south suburban region by providing education, prevention programming, advocacy, and community partnerships focused on mental wellness and public health. Our work is centered around four pillars: Mental Wellness, Suicide Prevention, Opioid Awareness, and Anti-Bullying.

Today, Musch Love equips individuals, families, schools, faith communities, and organizations with the knowledge and resources to recognize warning signs, intervene early, reduce stigma, and build stronger, healthier communities. Through educational workshops, youth programming, community outreach, naloxone (Narcan) awareness, and strategic partnerships, we strive to ensure that no one has to face life’s challenges alone.

Our mission is simple yet profound: fostering healthy communities by reducing the effects of self-harm and promoting mental wellness.

Everything we do is driven by one vision: communities where individuals feel supported, families have access to lifesaving resources, young people are empowered to seek help without fear or stigma, and preventable tragedies become increasingly rare.

At Musch Love, we believe every life has immeasurable value. Every workshop, every training, every community conversation, and every life touched is part of our commitment to one enduring belief:

Every Life Deserves Musch Love.
